Emil Van Rooi

Guitar

Emil has graduated in both music and medical sciences at the University of the Western Cape. He has been a music instructor since 2014 and has taught students of all ages, the youngest being 6, and the oldest being 70 years old. He is greatly influenced by blues and rock music and this can be heard through his playing. He enjoys sharing these styles in his lessons.

Sven specializes in all the forms of modern and light music genres, but has a classical ear from childhood training, and a classically attuned family life. He is a integrator of music, Cognitive & Health Psychology and Coaching as a vehicle for truth, personal growth and reaching people with tools to facilitate meaning, authentic community and health.

He has two degrees in psychology from the University of Stellenbosch; 15 years of teaching and journalism experience; 22 years in the music and entertainment industry.

His aim is to address the overwhelming demand for mentoring, counselling, coaching and facilitating the development of community, individual as well as group identities by function. He understands the value and needed function of the individual and community which is key to the health of any person/corporation/human system.

Sven is a professional musician, a highly proficient guitarist (studio & live) and is versed in acoustic guitar, 12 string guitar, mandolin and electric guitar. He has been fortunate enough to play all over the country with a great variety of artists, both home-grown and international. His recording work can be heard on well over 100 albums within a variety of genres from 1997 to date.

He has 20 years of experience in the journalism, communication and media industries and is involved in the development of training young musicians and performance within the arts& culture sector.

Isaac Jones

Drummer

Isaac Jones lives in Lotus River, Cape Town. He has more than a decade worth of experience in drumming. He studied music at Xulon Music Tech and has worked with many great artists in the music industry. Isaac has a great passion to give back to the up and coming drummers and impart his knowledge which he has gained over the years.

Godwin Mentoor

Drummer

Godwin (aged 29), grew up in a small town close to Port Elizabeth called Jeffrey’s Bay.

His interest in drums was born when Godwin joined the church. He had a longing to play in the church band from early on. He played his first service at the age of 4. After finishing his matric he came to study at CMI Cape Music Institute. This was also when his journey started in the professional music industry. His first tour was with the late Ricardo “I love you daddy” Groenewald. Shortly thereafter he started working with artists such as:

  • Patrick Duncan
  • Stephany Buthelesi (Bebegetroud met rugby)
  • Elwira Standile
  • Andrea Anthony
  • Can Skylark
  • Malumes Music Initiative ect.
  • He is currently playing in a band called Project Band stationed in Paarl.

His happy space is behind a drumkit. Its an instrument that challenges you day by day and that is the reason why he loves to play drums and showcase his God given talent. One of his biggest goals is to inspire other young people. To bring across that nothing is impossible. “You just need to work harder everyday and keep a positive mindset” . Godwin would like to travel the world. He says “it’s always nice to meet new people in the music industry and build up new experiences”. His motto is “never give up on your dream because you can live it every day or you can watch it go past”. His favorite drum cymbals are the Zildjian K custom hybrid series and he loves to play on a Yamaha drumkit.

Spencer Mbadu

Legendry Cape Town bassist recognized internationally for his work both as a musician and teacher. Spencer loves making music. He is passionate about empowering and imparting his wealth of knowledge especially to the underdogs of the local poorer communities.

Spencer has performed with local and international artist and has represented his country on big stages in New York, Brazil and all over Europe.

Nathan Stephens

Pianist

Nathan Stephens is a multi-instrumentalist from Cape Town who discovered his passion for music education in the year 2010. He has been teaching piano/keyboards, guitars and drums in various settings ever since.

Nathan has studied performance majoring in keyboards at the Campus of Performing Arts (COPA – Cape Town), which has a strong contemporary focus. He then proceeded to pursue an advanced diploma in music at the University of the Western Cape’s Centre for Performing Arts (CPA), majoring in classical piano. During his time at the CPA, Nathan was part of the UWC jazz ensemble and freelanced as a solo pianist, performing at art galleries, weddings and corporate functions.

Apart from his full time teaching schedule, Nathan currently still freelances as keyboardist/bassist for various bands performing in a variety of genres.”
